Abstract
Globally, the right development of English-Speaking skills is crucial in the field of all the professions, and it is highlighted as a powerful tool of universal communication. The main objective of this study was to implement Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) activities, namely picture description and opinion sharing, to enhance English speaking skills in A2-level students at a public institution. The sample size was selected a group of ten participants, utilizing non-probabilistic convenience sampling methodology. The research was conducted employing quasi-experimental design, mixed method approach, applying qualitative and quantitative research instruments. Qualitative data was obtained through a semi-structured interview instrument, and quantitative data was collected by administering a pre-test, a post-test, and a survey. The pre- and post-tests were administered to assess learners’ speaking ability, before and after the intervention of the CLT intervention plan. Lastly, the survey and interview were administered to find the students’ perceptions towards the application of CLT activities for enhancing their speaking skill. The findings indicated that, correctly implementing CLT activities, improved students’ English-speaking skills, mostly in terms of interactive communication, grammar, and vocabulary.
