Abstract
In recent years, the use of technology in education has resulted in important changes to teaching approaches across a variety of disciplines, including language learning. Educators, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL), are increasingly investigating innovative techniques to engage and improve learning results among university students. Gamification is one such strategy that is gaining attention, as it uses game design aspects in non-game environments to inspire and stimulate learners. The research approach for this study employs an explanatory sequential design within a quantitative framework to study the use of Nearpod as a gamification tool in teaching English grammar to A2-level EFL university students at the University of Babahoyo. The results showed that the differences were high among pre- and post-test, due to Nearpod intervention in the course of the study. In the pre-test the mean is 3,33 and St. Dev. 2,97, while in post-test it was obtained a mean of 7,8 and St. Dev. of 2,43 giving a difference of 4,46 points in the student’s average grades, and increasing the grades in 57,31%. To sum up, the results from this study underscore the efficacy of Nearpod as a tool for enhancing student performance and satisfaction in English grammar classes. The significant improvements observed in test scores, coupled with the overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, suggest that Nearpod is a valuable asset in modern language instruction, capable of transforming traditional learning environments into dynamic, interactive spaces that promote deeper understanding and engagement.
